Hi Jayanti,

I was a Sai Baba devotee for 13 years, until I found out about his sexual abuse of young men. What a shock for me. I totally bought into him being God in human form. I still ask myself how it is that I could have believed all this. I have also been part of several other spiritual groups. So much of your story resonates with what I have seen and experienced. I assure you, there is life after spirituality.

I heard your NPR interview today. Good for you! I struggled for years to get the education I wanted. Women with your intelligence and tenacity will help young women today succeed.
Best of everything to you.

Just heard your interview on NPR. Congratulations for articulating so well the challenges of living in and leaving a cult. I've had similar experiences. The ordinary world offers freedom and autonomy, but it is a lonely place compared with the life of the "Shangha". It is ironic that our practice drives us to challenge the spiritual groups that first birth us and then stifle us. The universe is not without a sense of humor!

I'm looking forward to reading your book, as I am always interested in memoirs by former cult members.

Jayanti,
A couple of years ago when you announced that you were pregnant with Nadira, also teaching full time, going for your PhD in the evenings, and working on your well anticipated memoir seemed unreal. Look how far you have come! I am so proud of you and want to wish you the best with your very first book.
With love,
Andi

Congrats, Jayanti! All best wishes for lots of success. I'm still trying to discard those "unwanted childhood lessons" How did you do it?!? :-)

Best, Joe

Jayanti,
I'm so excited for you that your book is about to be released! I cannot wait to read it. I remember eating lunch together shortly before Nadira and Zoƫ were born and you telling me about it. I've enjoyed reading your blog and looking at the pictures you've posted. It's only been 18 months now----we absolutely need to get the girls together and catch up!

Thank you for sharing your weekly memoirs with the rest of us (i.e. your blog). It's an insightful way to connect with our favorite author, musician, or artist in a very human way. By your stories, I see what I have missed.
I look forward to your book.

Your story seems fascinating. I have always been curious about how and why people get involved with cults. I am looking forward to reading the book.
